In A Nutshell

In this The Credit People review, we’re going to show you how The Credit People works, its pros and cons, and whether it’s the best credit repair service for you.

If you’ve landed on this article, you’re probably wondering if The Credit People is a legit credit repair company that’s worth your time, and if you can trust them.

And if you’re thinking of using The Credit People to help repair your credit, then these are all valid concerns that you should know the answers to before you decide to hire them.

In this The Credit People review, we’re going to tackle all these questions and more.

The Credit People review at a glance

The Credit People Pros

  • Free credit reports and scores. Some companies require you to eat the cost of any additional credit reports they have to pull, but The Credit People includes this in your services.
  • Low price. The Credit People is on the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to pricing for credit repair, especially true since their plan is straightforward and you don’t have to pay for add-ons.
  • No hidden fees. Some companies charge separately for credit reports and certain other services, but with The Credit People, everything is included.
  • Satisfaction guarantee. This membership comes with a 60-day money-back guarantee. If you’re not satisfied for any reason, you can ask for your money back.
  • Educational resources. The Credit People website is full of valuable resources about credit scores, repair, and responsible usage. They also answer common questions about student loans, credit cards, and other debt.
  • 24-hour online access. Your membership includes 24-hour access to your very own credit repair dashboard. Here, you can see the progress they are making, updates to your credit, and easily connect with a representative.

The Credit People Cons

  • Not BBB accredited. The Credit Pros has a “C” rating with the BBB, which is less than we like to see. However, it’s important to note that this is not unusual with credit repair companies, as customers sometimes do not fully understand the process.
  • Limited package options. While we tend to like the simplicity of a one-package service, some people prefer to have more options. For example, it might be nice to see a more inclusive package that includes more individualized credit counseling.

Who is The Credit People?

The Credit People call themselves “credit superheroes” for good reason—they have more than 15 years under their belts of helping people restore their credit and improve their finances, and have served more than 100,000 customers with positive results. Their team is highly-trained and certified in all the laws that govern credit repair, including the (FRCA) and the Fair Credit Reporting ActFair Debt Collections Practices Act

They pride themselves in addressing credit scores in a holistic manner, which means they don’t just focus on deleting items from your report. They pay attention to the things that matter and help you build your credit score with a variety of educational resources.

How much does The Credit People cost?

  • Monthly Membership. $19 startup fee & $79 a month
  • Flat Rate Membership. $419

The Credit People basically just has one service plan, so you don’t have to figure out what services you need and how much you need to pay.

But what they do have is two separate ways to pay for it—if you prefer to pay monthly, you just pay as you go and you can cancel at any time, but if you’re pretty sure you’ll need their services for the full six months, the Flat Rate Membership will save you some money.

With both memberships, you’ll receive 24-hour access to your account, free credit reports, unlimited disputes, and creditor intervention. And if you sign up your spouse within three days, you’ll also get a $20 discount on both orders.

What does The Credit People do?

Once you decide to get started with The Credit People, they will retrieve your credit reports from all three bureaus and upload them onto your account dashboard, and then go to work immediately creating a plan of action to improve your credit.

Using this plan of action, they’ll start to aggressively challenge and remove as many negative items as they can. Unlike other companies, they will even address judgments and bankruptcies.

Most of the time, the strategy will include reviewing your credit reports thoroughly for mistakes, fraudulent items, or items that should have been removed already. When they locate these items, they will send out a round of dispute letters, either to your creditors or the bureaus, asking for them to be removed.

Many items will require further validation and communication to address them, but many customers see results after the first round of disputes.

The Credit People also intervenes with your creditors if needed, attempting to negotiate with them and advising them to cease any collection attempts while you deal with the matter.

In addition, they offer their services for almost any credit-related need you have—for example, if you need an updated credit report for a potential employer, they are there to help.

How does The Credit People help with your credit?

You probably understand how important credit is: employers want to see a high score to assure them you’ll be an honest employee, landlords check your score to decide whether they think you’ll pay your rent, and of course, lenders use your score to determine your creditworthiness

Unfortunately, even a brief financial setback can leave a blemish on your credit report that might keep you from getting a job, renting an apartment, or buying a car. Or at the very least, you’ll probably be facing sky-high interest rates and insurance premiums. And that’s where The Credit People comes in.

The Credit People can help you remove some or all negative items from your report, which will boost your credit score and potentially save you a lot of money in the long run.

They’re also very good about offering individualized service, so you can let your rep know that you’re trying to qualify for a home loan, for example, and they will do what they can to make sure your lender gets your updated scores and reports as often as you need them.

They will also help you find other ways to boost your credit, which can include advising you to apply for another credit card if your debt to income ratio is too high.

Removing negative items

It’s important to note that no one is legally able to remove legitimate items from your report, but that doesn’t mean that these items never get removed.

For one thing, items only stay on your report for seven years, so creditors will occasionally go ahead and remove an item after a dispute if it’s close to coming off anyway. This is because in order to leave it on the report, they have to prove the item belongs to you, and sometimes, they feel it’s not worth the effort.

Other times, a creditor will remove a negative item as an act of goodwill, which is usually done when you have one late payment in the midst of several other on-time payments. But there is always a chance they will remove it for other reasons.

Their success rate with their customers speaks for itself:

  • 32% average increase in credit scores
  • 78% approved for auto loans
  • 71% approved for home loans
  • 81% approved for new credit
  • 74% approved for refinancing

How long does The Credit People take to repair your credit?

When creditors receive disputes, they have 30 days to respond and verify the debt. If they don’t respond, the items are immediately removed.

Because The Credit People starts sending out disputes right away, many customers report seeing a change within the first 30 days. However, the majority of customers see results within 45-60 days, and you’ll most likely see completed results in about six months.
